It’s finally warm enough to give full baths to my boys, so today I decided to finally try all three products. I did try a little bit of the Squeaky Green & Clean Shampoo earlier this year, but I only used it on my pony’s horrendous poopy butt. (Editor’s Note: If you’re wondering what poopy butt is, go read the Squeaky Green & Clean Waterless Deep Cleaning Shampoo review linked above).
Today’s models are Luther, my amazing lease horse, and Tempo, my first pony and who I like to call my “pony soulmate.”
I started bath time by doing a full body rinse in order to get off any dirt and sweat. This was especially important for Luther because I rode him before I gave him his bath. Tempo also was pretty dusty considering he loves to roll in the dirt as soon as he gets turned out in the morning. After I rinsed them both off with clean water, I took some of the Squeaky Green & Clean Shampoo and squirted it onto the sponge. I also had a bucket of clean water filled up so I could dunk the sponge in. This distributed the shampoo into the water and made it all sudsy. I lathered both of my boys up really well EVERYWHERE – mane, tail, belly, back, legs, under the tail. I got everything as soapy as possible. I let it sit on one side while I worked on lathering up the other side. For especially dirty areas, like Luther’s white leg markings or Tempo’s poopy butt, I used a lot of elbow grease and scrubbed so the shampoo really worked its way into the hair.
After I was satisfied with my shampoo job, I squeezed some of the Silky Rinse Out Moisturizing Conditioner for Coat, Mane, & Tail onto my hand and worked it through the coat, mane, and tail. I also put some on my sponge. Once I got it all over, I let it sit for a few minutes while I washed out the sponge and washed off my hands (Tempo is shedding… a lot). After about 3 minutes, I rinsed with clean water. I made sure to rinse until the water coming off of my horses was completely clean with no suds or bubbles.
While Tempo and Luther were drying, I took some of the De-Stress Intensive Restructuring & Detangling Treatment and worked it into their manes and tails. Two tips for this: 1. Make sure to shake the bottle first because the natural ingredients do separate and settle. 2. You don’t need a ton for it to be effective. I had a very small amount in my hands, and I was able to use it on both the mane and the tail. I made sure to really work it in from root to tip – it’s a great excuse to give your horse a tail and neck massage!
After about 5 or 10 minutes, I brushed their manes and tails to make sure the product got on every single strand of hair.
So what’s the verdict?
Thankfully Ecolicious Equestrian only sent me minis..
….because now I have to buy more of their products!
I loved the shampoo, conditioner, and mane and tail treatment. Both of my guys’ coats are super soft and smooth. They also smell amazing. The shampoo and conditioner didn’t leave any yucky residue or make their coats feel sticky or tacky like some other products. They also both had great shine to their coats which was awesome to see on a sunny, warm day! The mane & tail treatment also was amazing. After using it, the brush went right through their manes and tails. No tangles at all. Tempo’s tail looked fantastic, especially after being crapped up all winter. I’m seriously impressed with how his tail looked. You would never be able to tell he likes to smoosh his butt up against his stall wall to poop. Luther and Tempo’s manes and tails did not feel sticky or tacky at all. They were super smooth and soft. I could run my fingers through them, and when the wind blew, they looked gorgeous!
One of my friends came up to pet my horse while he was grazing, and she commented on how soft his coat was. She asked me what I used on him because she “had to get some for her horse immediately!”
