I recently had an amazing opportunity to interview the founder and owner of Sport Horse Lifestyle, Sarah Ryan. Sarah is only 25 years old and has been a part of the equestrian world since she was six. She graduated from Georgetown University and majored in English and History.

Sarah owns four horses of her own, a hunter and three jumpers. She grew up riding in the jumpers and has always preferred that ring the most. Sarah makes riding a priority in her life and has developed a huge amount of trust with her trainer. Sarah invests in sale horses from Europe and brings them to America for her trainer. Together, they train and resell the horses she brings to America. Sarah admits that it can be a difficult process, especially when she has to sell the horses she’s made a great bond with. In addition to riding, she also flips real estate! Sarah describes the process of buying and selling homes as “[d]ifferent but fulfilling.” She loves keeping busy and working hard to be successful.

Sarah originally started Sport Horse Lifestyle as a blog about her life and horses. She gained thousands of followers on her Instagram, and with that, massive interest in her equestrian lifestyle. Around six months ago, Sarah got the idea to turn Sport Horse Lifestyle into a business as well. Sarah noticed that not many equestrian brands make products catered to the late teens and early twenties demographic. She set out to make different products that everyone would want to wear to and outside of the barn.

In May 2015, Sarah first started to sell her products. She gets ideas for her products from pop culture references. Sarah says her clothes are “[f]un and non-traditional.” Her most popular t-shirt, Horsès (this is just a link to one style offered by the company), is a play on the Hermès logo. This was one of the first shirts Sarah released and has since then been available in four different colors. What makes the Sport Horse Lifestyle apparel so enticing is the apparel is never reprinted the same exact way! Sarah designed the apparel to be this way so anyone can turn their #ROOTD into their #OOTD! However, Sport Horse Lifestyle also sells products besides apparel, such as keychains (Author’s Note: I have one and I absolutely love it!), necklaces, saddle pads, and much more!

A couple months ago Sarah traveled to Hawaii for a photo shoot featuring her Sport Horse Lifestyle apparel. She decided on having the photo shoot in Hawaii because she didn’t want to have a “basic” equestrian photo shoot. Sarah characterized the photo shoot as “[s]o much fun and “an amazing experience.” As a fun promotional idea for the Hawaii photo shoot she released the popular “Ride or Die” logo (just one style available) on products in her store. It features a skull and cross bone in place of where the horse usually is in her logo. There are now various shirts, sweatshirts, and bags available for purchase with that logo on the Sport Horse Lifestyle website.
The highly anticipated Fall/Winter 2016 line will be available for pre-order starting November 1st (heard here first, might we add) and will ship on December 1st!
Sarah has also partnered with us in doing an Instagram giveaway. Check her Instagram for rules and how to enter!
