After months of waiting, Ogilvy finally released its reworked hunter line. Personally, I was most excited about the fleece lined hunter half pad. I received mine a few weeks ago, and I am here to review it as promised.
As always, Ogilvy Equestrian delivered on this product. I absolutely adore it. It fits my saddle perfectly. I had to order the smallest size because my saddle is a 16″, and I was not disappointed. The pad is lined with fleece in the front, back sides, and back. It offers all the perks of the Ogilvy Memory Foam Half Pads, but it is completely suitable for the hunter and equitation rings. I am super excited to show in it this upcoming season.
For those of you that haven’t read my first Ogilvy review, here are the perks of the Ogilvy Memory Foam Fleece Lined Half Pad:
- Anti-slip technology
- V-Shape allows for special protection for the horse’s withers and back;
- Shock absorption for both your back and the horse’s’
- No friction;
- No rubbing;
- Pressure distribution;
- Improves saddle fit for those of use that can’t afford a custom saddle for each horse we ride or own
I have found that this pad offers all of the above. However, I have modified the usage of the pad a little bit. I do not use it on every horse I ride like I once used to because I have found that it does not fit every horse I ride properly. For example, my hunter, Monte, is a little on the chunky side, and it actually causes the saddle to lift too much off his back and cause me to feel unstable. However, it fits my horse Luther perfectly as well as my lease horse Chapeau – both who have high withers and are arthritic.
I have also found, like the jumper memory foam half pad, that this pad helps my back. Sometimes I get a sore back from riding, and I don’t feel this or get this when using this pad during a ride. The pad also definitely helps saddle fit as I am not able to afford to buy a new saddle for every horse that I ride (and I ride a lot of horses).
Overall, I would highly recommend this pad, especially if you are looking for something that will help your saddle fit your horse better; be comfortable on your horse’s back; and help your back too. However, I would also highly recommend having a saddle fitter come out and check your horse’s saddle fit. It is not good to just blindly use a half pad just because someone tells you to do so. Educate yourself, talk to a professional, and do what is best for your horse.
As for me, I’ll be rocking this in the equitation and hunter rings this season.
Ogilvy has also released several other hunter items: the Friction Free Contour Pad; the Profile Pad; and the Memory Foam Contour Pad. I also believe they have re-released their regular hunter half pad as well, which is not fleece lined. Each comes in sizes that fit 15″ saddles to 18″ saddles. Additionally, the Fleece Half Pad comes in a variety of colors including white, black, grey, and brown (and possibly navy, but I can’t remember). Shipping takes about 4 – 6 weeks because of demand.
Unfortunately, the pads cannot be ordered off of the website just yet, but you can email Ogilvy to place your order. You can also contact them by phone which is 450-699-8217.
